When it comes to concrete it definitely is the most popular material used in the construction projects. It is quite versatile during the construction processes and it is mostly used since it has a higher amount of resistance when it comes to the compressive forces that are exerted by the building structures. It is through the addition of the pozzolanic materials that we get different enhanced properties of the concrete such as strength, durability, longevity, workability and of course stopping cracks and crevices.

When we see that silica based concrete additives are added to the cement mixture it helps in the improvement of the performance of concrete. The concrete additives are pozzolanic materials meaning that it helps in the reduction of the calcium hydro-oxide that is present in the concrete.

It is through the modification of the microstructures present in the cement composites that we get to see an improvement in the strength, durability and the mechanical properties of the buildings. Since the concrete additives are made out of fine grain particles therefore it helps in being densely packed on to the walls. This whole process thereby leads to an improved micro structure of the concrete along with the properties.

Silica Based Concrete Additives: How It Is Useful In the Construction Processes?

Micro silica or the silica fumes are the main ingredient that is used in the silica based concrete additives. The main reason for using silica fumes in the construction projects is because it helps in increasing the durability and strength of the buildings.

Silicon metals and alloys are produced in the electric furnaces. There are a number of reasons why they form an important part during the construction processes.

Workability: Depending on the materials, mix proportions, environmental conditions, the workability of the concrete can be determined. Concrete which contains silica fumes tends to be more cohesive and hence forth is not prone to segregation.

Compressive strength: The compressive strength of the silica fumes is dependent on the factors such as the type and the quality of the cement that is being used, the temperature at which it is being cured and also the quality of the silica fumes.

Flexural strength: Concrete that contains silica fumes have more amount of flexural strength than the other kinds.

It is because of the silica fumes that concrete is able to reach a high performance level during the construction processes.
