Cerium oxide is the most common material that is used for polishing glass objects. It is an orange-yellow chemical, which is available in powder form. This powder is mixed with a little amount of water to turn into a paste of very less viscosity. Usually, a small-sized polishing wheel is needed for rubbing this paste over the entire glass surface uniformly.

There are some other chemicals used commonly as glass polishing materials in many households and also for commercial purposes. Zirconium oxide, Cerium hydroxide, Silicon dioxide, and Zirconium hydroxide are the chemicals that are known to have effective qualities for polishing glass. However, Zirconium compounds are not usually available in local hardware stores, as this element is rarely found.

The common molten wax, urethane, acrylic and few other polymers are used by many homemakers, for polishing all their glass objects of homes.

Old glass materials lose their original sparkle and look worn out with passing time. The homemakers use suitable glass polishing substances for making all glass objects shinier and easily restore the actual grandeur of all glass surfaces. The old glass panes of doors and windows lose normal visibility due to the accumulation of dirt and only proper polishing can bring back the 100% visibility. Moreover, these glass objects get longer life due to occasional polishing of their surfaces.
